His story

Leadership shaped by education, service, and action

Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, widely known as ARK, began his professional journey in education after studying Law in the United Kingdom. On returning to Nigeria in 2007, he joined Modupe Memorial Schools, founded by his late mother, Chief Mrs Abiodun Kasunmu, and rose to become Education Director.

His work later expanded into business strategy, youth political advocacy, and elective public service. In 2015, at age 32, he won election to represent Ikeja Constituency 2 and became the youngest member of the 8th Lagos State House of Assembly. He earned further mandates in 2019 and 2023.

Across these roles, his record has centred on education access, youth opportunity, community infrastructure, legislative reform, and practical support for constituents. His humanitarian work is often described as Acts of Random Kindness, reflecting the initials ARK.

Career journey

From the classroom to the legislature

2001 to 2007

Legal education in the United Kingdom

After attending King's College and D-Ivy College in Lagos, he completed university foundation studies in Law at Irwin College, Leicester, and studied Law at the University of Wolverhampton. He later earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration from the Pristine School of Management.

2007 to 2013

Education leadership

He joined Modupe Memorial Schools as Education Administrator-in-training and later became Education Director. His innovations supported the institution's growth and earned him Top Elegance Magazine's Best Educator of the Year award in 2011.

2011 to 2013

Business and strategy

Alongside his work in education, he served as Business Development, Legal Framework and Strategy Consultant at ExcelPlus Business Solutions.

2007 to 2014

Youth political advocacy

He founded and led the Democrats Group of Nigeria and the Revive Active Democracy Coalition of Nigeria, mobilising young people around elections and democratic participation.

2015 to 2023

Three electoral mandates

He won election to represent Ikeja Constituency 2 in 2015 at age 32, was re-elected in 2019, and secured a historic third term in March 2023. He was the youngest member of the 8th Lagos State House of Assembly.

June 2023

Deputy Majority Leader

Following his third election victory, he was elected Deputy Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Legislative work and community impact

Legislation and public leadership

  • Sponsored bills to establish the Lagos State Sports Trust Fund and Lagos State Sports Commission in 2017.
  • Co-sponsored six additional bills and motions in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
  • Served as Chairman of the House Committee on Youth, Sports and Social Development during the 8th Assembly.
  • Served as Chairman of the House Committee on Lands from November 2019 to May 2023.
  • Helped resolve a disputed land matter in Magodo and advocated publicly for fair representation of Ikeja in state appointments.
  • Was elected Deputy Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly in June 2023.

Education and youth development

  • Sponsored more than 2,000 GCE registrations and more than 3,000 JAMB registrations for constituency students.
  • Facilitated university admission for more than 100 students to Lagos State University by August 2023.
  • Supported vocational, agricultural, human resources, youth parliament, and leadership training opportunities locally and abroad.
  • Sponsored education and hygiene programmes for more than 1,000 schoolgirls in partnership with Jonna Gudmonsen and Hammedah Foundation.
  • Created football, snooker, table tennis, and talent-screening programmes, including a 2023 collaboration with JE9 Sports of Portugal that identified more than 30 football talents.

Infrastructure and community development

  • Facilitated the ultramodern pedestrian bridge and international bus park at Berger Bus Stop in 2016.
  • Supported the rehabilitation or reconstruction of roads across Ojodu and Ikeja, including Aina, Odozi, Ogunowo, Obanta Avenue, Mojidi, Laide Tomori, Kasumu Aleshinloye, and Ashafa streets.
  • Facilitated drainage construction and channelisation at Osaye and Adu streets in Aguda and around Ogba Central to address flooding.
  • Provided borehole water systems in Aina Street, Anifowose, Yakoyo, and Ipodo communities.
  • Helped secure land approval for the Agidingbi Community Health Centre and facilitated a high-voltage transformer for Akiode community.

Livelihoods and humanitarian support

  • Facilitated employment for more than 105 constituents across Lagos State public institutions and other agencies.
  • Provided microfinance support to more than 100 small business owners, women, and artisans, alongside modern tools for vocational workers.
  • Delivered a COVID-19 response valued at more than N25 million through food support, direct cash transfers, protective supplies, and public education.
  • Supported persons with disabilities, constituency aides, community volunteers, and young people through financial assistance and mobility support.
  • Established the Adedamola Richard Kasunmu Global Foundation in March 2023 as a platform for his humanitarian and social-impact work.

A commitment to the next generation

Born into the Kasunmu, Mogaji, and Tinubu families of Lagos, Hon. Kasunmu is an advocate for youth inclusion and the empowerment of young Nigerians. He established the Adedamola Richard Kasunmu Global Foundation in March 2023 to provide a lasting platform for his humanitarian work and personal social responsibility.

His interests include cooking, football, mentoring, and giving. He is married with children, and his public life continues to reflect a belief that leadership must be measured by responsibility, opportunity, and service to others.
